- the wheels were delivered with insufficiently tensioned spokes despite my precise specifications
- it took weeks to get an exact indication of the tension strength
- Finally, 5 carbon spokes broke - fortunately not during a ride, but overnight in the cellar. The reason for this is that the glue between the carbon and aluminum elements of the spokes has weakened.
- After around 2 weeks, I have not yet received any response from the manufacturer or any suggestions for solving the problem.
For me, these are serious reasons that have prompted me to write these lines.

Spokes broke after first ride, wheel bent, Company has not sent me a new set of wheels, they want to send me new spokes to replace, this is not going to work as some of the other spokes are slack and when I tighten them they pulled apart .
Robin T.
I did not receive the wheels that I ordered and the wheels that were shipped arrived so damaged. Tokyo Wheel did not offer to exchange wheel set. Expected to file claim with UPS shipping for the wheels myself, settlement sent to the Tokyo Wheel which I do not understand. Limited response from Tokyo Wheel. Wheels ordered over 2 months ago and so far no resolution to the issues.
Dann N.
Nice wheels; great value; wonderful customer service.
William M.
These carbon wheels are light they are fast and they are high quality. I have them fitted to my Specalized Roubaix now 10 years old and what a difference the new wheels make. Thank you James and team for great wheels at a fraction of the price in the UK.
William
Very happy with Tokyo Wheels these are quality, they are light fast and strong. The price is great and service from the team second to none.

I just got my 4th pair a couple weeks ago and I really like the new hubs but I hope the dt’s240 come back like an option

Best wheels - I love the 3.4 wheelset. Every time the heavy hitters come out for group rides, I pull out my Ketsrel Legend with has my Tokyo 3.4 wheelset . I either lead the group or come back in the top 3 or 4 out of 15 riders. Very fast and holds speed very well !
Stephen L.
Light and Wider - Once received the wheel , my first impression is the wheel really light and wide.
Hugues B.
Great Value for Your Money - I am 100% happy with this wheelset. Why am I not giving 5 stars then? First and foremost, for the price I paid, I am 100% satisfied customer... but in order for me to give a 5-Star review, the braking performance needs to improve. It is ok, far from perfect. 5-star = perfection. I am sure Tokyowheel listen and can improve that in a next iteration.
Rest assured I am a satisfied customer and will be back to buy another wheelset here.
Marc H.
My new Epic 3.4 - Finally I received my wheel set at home like a Christmas gift in a pretty nice package. It was part of the experience to install the tubes, tires , brake pads and cassette. Then the first ride, the feel, the reactiveness, and the distinctive sound . Then after many rides I realized the confort and confidence they provide. Pretty satisfied so far. Look forward for the rolling performance and sustainable pleasure to ride on them!
Mark W.
Look Amazing - Just received my new wheels, have not used them yet but they look amazing.
Cristinel S.
Sill have to receive them. - Sill have to receive them. I have carbon hubs.
MICHAEL R.
need help - Have high spot on braking surfs what can I do to fix this problem
Don B.
Epic 3.4 - Great wheels! Fast and very durable. Noticeable improvement on climbing. I highly recommend these wheels.
Jack D.
Great wheels - Nice light wheels with a good finish. Due to the time of the year only limited outdoor miles on them. Breaking is not a problem at least not in the dry.
alfredo m.
good - Im very happy
Antonio I.
This is my first carbon - This is my first carbon wheels, but doing good so far
Brad W.
3.4 wheel set - Awesome wheel set. Light weight and great looking. My speed has increased and climbing faster
Patrick S.
EPIC 3.4 - Very very good - Purchased EPIC 3.4 with ceramic hubs and SAPIM spokes. Rode about 800km to date. Wheels have great build quality, they are light, supple, more comfortable and aerodynamic then previous Fulcrum aluminium wheelset. Brakes very well in wet and dry. Definitely makes riding more enjoyable.
Kirk W.
2000+km road test review - I’d been watching the Tokyo Wheels brand for a few years after a friend put me onto them. After a recent trip to New Zealand, I decided I needed a good set of climbing wheels and finally decided to make a purchase. I am so glad I did. I’ve ridden these wheels in all conditions and they’ve performed incredibly well. I am still blown away by the quality of the braking. I’ve ridden plenty of carbon wheels and often swapped them out for alloys in the wet. Not with these. In summary, the braking is top quality, they are super light, they spin for days and despite being punished for over 2000kms by an 85kg rider, they are as true as the day they arrived. Very satisfied customer.

Excellent Product - Excellent Product
Craig M.
EPIC 3.4 wheels - I was pretty sure I order the wheels with DTSwiss hubs but they turned up with Tokyowheels hubs - I checked my order but it said Tokyowheels as well - I was sure though.
Delivery took awhile - probably longer than I had expected.
I did request a decal change and that came through although I was not given any feedback as to whether my request acknowledged. Communications where pretty terrible in general even the chat window would take over 12 hours for a response on the one time I recieved a response.
The wheels have done a few Ks now and so far are holding up well - they are true and roll pretty well. cross-winds effect these wheels more than my old Bontragers D3s but they are a $3500 wheel.
I might consider these again for my mountain bike when I am looking for new wheels.
thanks
Craig.
ANDRES A.
Awesome Wheels!!! - I bught this wheels to ride them just for training and climbing sessions, but the stiffness, the lightness and the ride feeling, makes me use them always. I got a pair of Reynolds Strike SLG carbon that I thoght I will use for competitions but I reather my Tokyoweels. I just used them on a 70.3 Iron Man and worked great...
Craig B.
EPIC 3.4 - Carbon Clincher - Wheelset - Brand new out of the box the DT Swiss free hub would not accept my campagnolo 12-28 cassette. Had to file the cassette chines on a few of the cogs to make it work. I tried to contact Tokyowheel with this issue. It took many emails with time consuming delays to communicate. Eventually Tokyowheel referred me to DT-Swiss. At that point I dropped pursuing this issue. Have put 500 miles on the wheels. The rear wheel is already out of true. Rear wheel has some lateral "side to side " movement when spinning/turning. Wondering if during the wheel building process if they took the time to detress spoke tension and then true the wheel.Feel free to send another wheel set, Maybe I just got a lemon...
William M.
Epic3.4 - Great wheels, very happy with the quality and performance. Delivery and tracking worked well also. Cannot praise the Tokyo team highly enough.
Robert L.
Tokyo Wheels - I love the wheels. They roll great and inspire confidence on fast descents. I would definitely purchase them again.
Michael P.
Review From Mike Preston - A a fantastic set of lightweight wheels. The acceleration I achieve with these wheels is a marked improvement on my alloy wheels. They are 20% lighter, 15% more aerodynamic and the customer service I received from Tokyowheel was second to none. Many thanks.
Ken M.
Amazing service and wheels - Great communication wonderful service and an amazing set of wheels. I'm faster on all my favourite rides. They hold there speed better than the shimano RS 80 wheels I had. I'm very happy with all aspects of my purchase.
Thuanson P.
Very good, I wanna buy - Very good, I wanna buy another pair
Mark H.
Plesently surprised - Top quality rims laced to perfection with hubs that roll like silk
markus m.
Perfect!!!! - Perfect!!!!
Heinrich S.
3.4 - Superb wheelset. I really like to ride onsdag This wheelset. Stiff and steady in windy conditions.
Just one downside. The decals is lose and drops of.
Eliam L.
EPIC 3.4 - Great set of wheels
Robert H.
Totally satisfied! - Personal best today at the Centurion C50 in the Blue Mountains in Canada on my new Epic 3.4 clinchers! Light, fast, smooth, braking clean and sure.
Celia S.
Sill Waiting - I still whaiting for the delivery...not hapy.
Rico7898
So far so good - So far so good the decals of Tokio wheels are peeling of already y thing they didn’t installed correctly other that that they are ok will see how the hold together
Steve H.
Very Accomodating - The purchase process was painless even though I had some special needs regarding deferred shipment. So far customer service has been excellent.
Benjamin C.
Spinning a little faster - It is only a few rides and can feel less tiring to maintain a higher speed. I had chose. The DT Swiss hub, not sure if it is due to the hub or I need a little accustomed to. The acceleration felt a little sluggish compared to my last wheels. Had just order the 36T ratchet upgrade for it and waiting for delivery. Let’s see if it is due to the ratchet system.
Also hopping that the freehub can be steel. Yes it might add a little more weight but it more durable, don’t mind that little more weight and $ spend.
Other than that overall easier to maintain higher speed. Will need to push harder to see if I can go beyond and faster.
Thuanson P.
Very good I love it - Very good
I love it
Thanks Kena I have your break pad
Thanks again
John D.
Exceptional Wheels - I elected for the upgraded hubs and spokes for my 3.4s and am extremely happy with the wheels. A very noticible difference to my 2016 DTSWISS RC38 Carbon Wheels. I run my 3.4s tubeless with Schwalbe One 25mm tyres. I can’t put a finger on why I would spend twice as much on an ENVE... Seriously, an unbelievable wheel. Stiff etc... If your question is... are these wheels good? The answer is they are excellent. Only reason I gave 4/5 is they took 4 weeks to arrive. Happily shop at Tokyo again.
Fuad
Excellent Value! - This is my second wheelset from Tokyowheel. The first one was Epic 5.6. Fast wheel and suitable for most riding conditions - even on some hill climbs. Since I'm preparing for some longer and steeper hill climbs, I've decided to purchase a climbing wheetset and purchased Epic 3.4. It did not disappoint. Light and stiff - most importantly, brakes very well in extremely wet condition during my recent decent from a 1,300m hill climb. Brake pads used are from Swissstop Black Prince.
Mehmet Ç.
Excellent money value..! - They are very nice, very good quality and very light. it is a great value for money you spent. I paid a tax but Tokyowheels paid me back +%10 value. Thank you Tokyowheels :grinning:
Ira S.
EPIC 3.4 - Very nice wheels, less than the price of other competitors with same or better performance. It roll like a butter with DT hubs.
Micky L.
Epic 3.4's - Pretty good to go straight out of the box and in fact the heaviest thing about these wheels was the cardboard box!
I was quite surprised at how quiet they were, they also rolled along quite nicely as well.
I have only had 1 ride on them so far due to being away with work for 2 months and am looking forward to putting some more km's on them this weekend ..... but so far so good!
Gary S.
Epic 3.4 Carbon Wheelset - Excellent! - My first ride on these wheels was a great experience. Rode a hilly canyon ride in central New Mexico with multi-directional cross winds. No problems. Spin true right out of the box. The black 'Epic' decals were bubbling in a few places. I pushed the bubbled areas down and they seem to be holding. Perhaps a better decal design is in order. Other than that....nice wheels!
Lawrie N.
Love those 3.4's - Love performance straight from the box, Delivery couple of day's earlier than promised & they look spectacular. Customer service top shelf , best I've ever had. :-)
Matt L.
Epic 3.4 - Pros:
Purchase was painless
Delivery was on time
Wheels roll great
UCI / ITU certified
Cons:
Vinyl decals are disappointing.
Already nicked and peeling.
Apparently Tokyowheel switched back to basic vinyl decals from water based baked in ones. I think that has significantly reduced what would otherwise be very up market looking wheels.
Alan W.
Tokyowheels - Not sure about the wheels yet but at present I've to say the company is poor to deal with. These wheels are advertised on their website as being hand-built in USA. When wheels arrived I found them in a box from China. Made contact with company only to be told they were made in china not what I wanted to hear. I asked further questions and off this date they never replied. The Decals on the rims are very poor and even one off them was put on across the braking surface.
Giles P.
Great quality, really quick delivery, - Great quality, really quick delivery, easy install. What's not to like??
Michael Y.
Epic 3.4 - I brought a set of epic 3.4’s. One race and 300ks in the are running true. Really nice set to ride. The process from start to finish was well run, so much so several of the guys I ride with are considering toykowheel for there next carbon wheel purchase. 5 Star experience
Rennie C.
EPIC 3.4 Carbon Clincher - Great set of wheels, very responsive and light..it’s all worth the wait and the staff are very helpful and they response quickly if you have any questions. Great job Tokyowheel!!
Alexandre C.
Epic 3.4 - Outstanding service, fast, reliable and prompt. Now I am going to test the new Epic 3.4 wheelset and will leave a review ASAP. Thank you so much, it's y second purchase and so far I am amazed with customer service.
Fernando R.
Very light Wheelset. Very nosy When braking - It is a Great wheelset but it makes a lot of noise When braking. A very lousy squeeking noise.
Lewis M.
Epic - Great wheels at a great price
Mish'al A.
Light n smooth - Very happy with the wheels , smooth , light n fast . Worth every dollar :dollar:
Sven G.
Very good :+1: - I’m “come-back” customer! Have purchased the 3.4 front wheel in order to be able to ride also on windy days with my 5.6 set.
Peter M.
EPIC Labels - Very happy with the Wheelset although a point of improvement the decals on the front wheel were not adhered to the rim and are now lifting off. Trying to adhere them to rim only lasts a couple of minutes and then they lift again.
Rob B.
Nice upgrade - Replaced OE Bontrager aluminum. Good shipping, true out of the box - impressed with quality. Light and stiff, a bit noisy, braking feels good
Michael K.
Epic 3.4 clinchers - This was an incredible value. The wheel set is everything I expected they would be and more. Tokyowheel is the real deal.
Jamaes w.
Epic 3.4 - After returning from vacation I have managed to clock up a couple
of hundred miles so far. I have found the standard hubs to be very smooth and cross winds have had little effect whilst riding due to the low profile of the wheels.I too spent many hours trawling numerous websites looking at wheels ranging from in excess of £1000's to cheaper imports. I took a great deal of time observing the Tokyo Wheels website looking at who and what people were buying. I eventually took the plunge choosing the Epic 3.4 as they seemed to be a good all round wheel set. I must state that I have not regret this decision to the point that I am considering the 5.6 option next spring. Great service, great price, great ride and they look fantastic all be it I went for stealth and I am confident they will stand the test of time.
Leo G.
Not as good as what I read on the survey - I bought this to replace my Campagnollo Ultra Shamal and was so excited and even added the K-Swiss dt-240 with Saphim spokes. Upon installing it, it was actually heavier riding with it compared to my old Campagnolo Ultra Shamal. The spin on the dt-Swiss 240 was average. However, Aero dynamics felt good. Overall, sorry but Not happy with the performance & price I paid for the E34 with dt-Swiss 240.
Derek M.
Great Wheels and Great Service from TokyoWheel - I purchased my Epic 3.4 carbon clincher wheels based on two recommendations from cycling pals and was not disappointed.
The communication from Kane at TokyoWheel was excellent; I received regular email updates at every stage of the purchase and delivery process. TokyoWheel also refunded me 110% of the customs duty charges in super efficient time.
More importantly I am very impressed with the wheels and as claimed my climbing has improved and my average speeds are up already.
Thank you Kane and all at TokyoWheel.
JIN C.
Epic wheels - I purchased the Epic carbon wheel set and they are great. I own Mavic, Dura Ace, and DT Swiss wheels and they are just as good at about half the price They ride smooth and straight and I will purchase again.
DANIEL T.
Epic 3.4 front wheel - Looks very well made. No problems on the road. I liked that it came with rim tape, which I could tell was neatly applied. I figured that if they were careful about rim tape they were careful about everything.
trevor s.
Epic 3.4 carbon wheels. - Well so far i rode 250 Km. on these wheels. Wheels are very sturdy, rolls good and is noticeably more aero dinamic than my previous box rim set. Actually i shaved three minutes off my time over a set course i often ride. I ride for fitness so i go fast or try to anyway. The roads i ride on are concrete surface and often bumpy, so far so good. I like them. The brake pads were too thick so i had to cut them down to fit in my Durace calliper. Quick release axle spindle too long, also cut with a hack saw, not a big deal. Wheels looks great on the bike. Had one rear flat but i think that was caused by the tube getting pinched when installed. I use the Conti. grandprix 4000 11 S. 25MM tires.
trevor s.
Epic 3.4 carbon wheels. - I have been using the wheels now for about 500KM. They rolls very good, is responsive, light weight and looks nice on the bike. I am happy with the purchase.
Dean D.
Very good - Outstanding value. Have had the wheels on for 1 week. Have done 100 miles including 1700 feet of climbing. No issues what so ever.
Renger B.
Love the wheels - Second set of tokyowheels for me. Just much better support in the corners and the stiffness just give me more speed, especially out of the corners. I also liked the whole sale procedure again from Tokyowheels. Keep that going! Great product for amazing price. It makes my Mavic wheels embarrasing really... keep it up
Albert U.
Thoroughly enjoying these wheels. Very - Thoroughly enjoying these wheels. Very quite, roll really well. Stiffer than my Zipp 60's.
So far so good
Clive A.
Sure footed...for sure - I bought these wheels to compliment my tubbies, which I feel are slightly fragile to ride and race everyday. My 1st ride was not thrilling as it was I did not get the tire pressure just right. I could almost feel each bump in the road, but once that was dialed in these wheels began to sing. Not the most explosive wheels out there, but they sure do roll well. The impression the wheels leave me with is a feeling of having more rubber on the road, which gives me more confidence, especially on the technical downhills.
MICHAEL C.
Fast, stable, and smooth rolling wheels. - I purchased the version with Sapim CX ray spokes. Amazingly fast and confident handling even in strong crosswinds. The hubs roll very smooth. Also take note of their excellent customer service. Highly recommended!
Muhannad J.
Great product at great price - Just what I have needed without shelling out a huge amount .
Austin S.
Custom 38 section DT Swiss EPIC Clinchers - Brilliant as always
Andrew S.
epic 3.4 front nut/cap replacement - for whatever reason one of the screw in combination bolt/ nut cap's sheared at the first thread. I sent an email with photo to kane and within a few days, a replacement axel w/2 caps was shipped. we had to grind off less than 1mm of material from the axel so the caps/hub bearings had no play. only took a second. ALL GOOD. personally, I have purchased (3) sets of clincher wheels from tokyowheels. several cycling buds have done the same. ALL are happy. my 3.4 clinchers are used for fast training the large weekend group hammer fests
Chris E.
Hard to beat - Although I have yet to properly break in my Epic 3.4 wheels I am very pleased with this purchase. You will be hard pressed to find a better set of wheels for quality, performance, price, and customer service.
Delivery was fast and upon noticing that I had an issue with a skewer Tokyo Wheel were quick to provide an immediate solution. I seriously hope these wheels stand the test of time for quality and performance ... in the meantime, i highly recommend.
Panagiotis K.
Great choice! - Great choice!
Todd C.
wheels of course - Way better than expected. absolutely true.
frederick b.
can't give 5 stars (I can't push them that hard), but they feel as good as the Roval clx40 - Short story. I bought a used Roubaix with Roval CLX40 rims, and I ended up cracking a rim. I choked at dropping $1000 (with crash discount). Bike shop suggested the Tokoyowheel as an employee rides them and likes it.
I got the 3.4 with the Sapim spokes, and standard hub, I'm 230 lb, and it was nice to have a little extra headroom on the weight.
I've only gotten a couple rides in so far, but, here's my impressions:
con;
The hub is a little narrower than the Roval it replaces, which means the magnet on the spoke doesn't reliably trip the Cateye sensor. Fortunately, I do have a small supply of magnets in the right size to fill in the space.
The Sapim spokes are aero, which does make it a little tougher to align the magnet.
Neither of these are flaws in the wheel, just things to work around .
Pros;
The 3.4 is capable of running tubeless, unlike my Roval rear rim. That means when my current tire wears out, I go to zero chance of a pinch flat, even with the extra lbs.
So, on to riding impressions.
The LBS had no problems, nothing out of order on the install.
First ride was a 10 mile break in loop that the local cycle club uses for the icebreaker. Absolutely no problems.
Next ride was more hilly, and somewhat longer. I went up the hills with ease, the wider rim does help with picking a direction, perhaps better than the CLX40 it replaces.
Bottom line, I'm a moderate cyclist, and my other road bike has alloy rims, so I can appreciate the performance of a carbon rim, even though I'll never push it to it's limits.
If you're looking for a performance upgrade over medium priced alloy rims, this would be the ticket
Odds are I'll sell the Roval Rear wheel, and replace it with the 3.4.
Pablo M.
Excellent wheels! - The Epic 3.4 clinchers I just bought are superior in many ways to the more expensive branded wheels in the market. I can truly feel the difference in acceleration and top end speed on my bike.
Eric S.
I have not seen my wheels yet - It’s been one month since I purchased them and I have not seen my wheels
Anna G.
Cheers :beers:...no comment on the - Cheers :beers:...no comment on the wheelsets...very good communication with the costumer service...all i can say is GREAT JOB...highly recommended TOKYOWHEEL 3.4
PETER A.
Smooth as silk! - Ok, I have ridden about 400k's so far and the wheels have impressed me with their smooth ride, this together with the Bianchi carbon frame makes for a great combination. I purchased the EPIC 3.4 - Carbon Clincher - Wheelset, and have Continental tyres 25 and 28mm f&r. Thanks again. Regards
Peter
Stig F.
Weight - Not right - The weight is 102g more the the specification, so my 3.4 disc with Vapor hubs is 1750 g. I have not tryed them on the road yet, so can not comment on how they roll.
Communication has been super, allways fast answer. Packing also fine.
