The wheels I paid for were never delivered!
Tracking the shipment was also not possible!
There wasn't a single answer to all of my Tokyo's inquiries! (adam@tokyowheel.com)
For this reason:
never, ever again a deal with Tokyo wheels
Panagiotis K.
Great rolling - We are very happy from the result
Thank you
Anders N.
Very well built - The wheels seems to be very well built and I will put them to test with Schwalbe Ultremo ZX Evo 25 mm tyres as soon as the spring arrives here in Stockholm. Hopefully thats soon and I will let you know how they perform.

The wheels arrived yesterday, and first impressions from this mornings spin are really positive! - The wheels arrived yesterday, and first impressions from this mornings spin are really positive! I'll continue to test them for a few weeks in a range if conditions, but I expect that we'll be speaking again soon.

I was very hesitant to buy these Tokyo Wheels - Hi There, I was very hesitant to buy these Tokyo Wheels without any representation here in Australia or any real history of sales etc. No-one I knew had any etc. I bought a set of Epic 38-50 with the Sapim upgrade in December 2013 and have found them to be the best wheels I have ever ridden (I have been lucky enough to have Zipp, FFWD, TWE, Shimano etc). Very stiff combination - have the brakes dialled up very close and no flex touching the pads. Roll brilliantly - so well I am selling my Zipp Tubulars I have been using for racing and will use these with Latex Tubes and GP4000s. Most impressive is the braking - first ride I was caught out in the pouring rain and found them to brake almost as well as Aluminium rims. I really was unexpectantly impressed here! Love the wide profile although it can be problematic with your brakes - need them almost at thier width limits. The spokes are a great upgrade - very quiet with the use of brass washers etc. Really am very impressed and I have found James a delight to deal with. Bit hard to get them on the phone - only issue I have had. But respond to emails very quickly. Longevity yet to be proven - but in 12 months time if they are still running well I will certainly buy another set.
Ryan M.
extremely impressed - just received my elite 50/60 tubular wheelset today ! the craftsmanship is impeccable . the ceramic bearings are smooth as silk. had to take the wheels out for a test run ....all i can say is WOW ! these wheels are fast stiff and roll exceptionally well . and of course the breaking is very good alot better than i was expecting . compared to my reynolds sdv66 wheelset. not to mention the elites look killer :D im extremely impressed !!! thank you james and everyone at tokyowheel .

Half the price of the competitors for what I consider to be a better wheel - I just bought a set of the Epic 38 clinchers with Sapim spokes and ceramic bearings and I love them. I know everyone is concerned about them being made in China but keep in mind most of the big names are manufactured overseas. As long as they comply with the owner's specs and the QA is in place it shouldn't be an issue. Now about the wheels. I received them professionally and securely boxed and in a timely manner. They look Fabulous! And let's face it, if you are a cyclist looking good is important. Weight - my set weighed in at 1370 Grams. 10 grams under advertised. Braking - compared to my Zipp 303 and Easton EC90 these are by far the best. No pulsing and a consistent feeling when applying pressure. I intentionally bombed down several steep, long climbs staying on the brakes trying to heat them up. They weren't even warm to the touch. Ride feel - they don't feel or sound hollow like my Zipps and smooth out the road pretty good. They hold speed and handle crosswinds well. Wheel Trueness - again I have been intentionally hitting rough areas of road, manholes, potholes and other imperfections trying to throw off the trueness and they have stayed true. As a matter of fact they showed up and remain perfectly true. Flexing - I'm 170 pounds and stand quite often toward the end of climbs. My Zipps flex and touch the brake pads when I'm hammering up climbs - these DO NOT. I'm telling you, I don't care where these wheels were made, they are the real deal. Concerning the owner's customer service. I've sent James no less than seven emails inquiring about the wheels and have never waited more than one day for a super comprehensive response. In closing, if you are looking for an exceptional set of carbon wheels at a Great price log into Tokyowheels. You can email me at Timothy.morello@yahoo.com if you have any questions. BTW: I'm a retired Marine living in Okinawa Japan and if these wheels were crap I wouldn't lie about it. Everything above is spot on.

Most versatile wheelset - Of all my wheelsets this one might be the most versatile. The wider rim and the rims profile, makes up for not only good aerodynamics but also great stability even when riding in sidewinds. The weight of the wheelsets makes them good enough for climbing wheels and I found the wheels to be very well built. Match these with a pair of Bontrager R3 25 mm tyres or schwalbe Ultremo Evo ZX 25 mm for best speed and comfort.
Anders N.
I own nearly 10 wheelsets and those could probably be the most versatile of them all. - This weekend all the snow went away in Stockholm and Yesterday I had the chance to do the first longer ride with the wheels. Did a 88 km ride wit a lot of headwinds and sidewinds and my first impression is that these wheels are awesome. They are actually less sensitive from the sidewinds than some of my low profile wheelsets which I guess is beacuse the shape of the rim. I own nearly 10 wheelsets and those could probably be the most versatile of them all. So far so good :-)
Anders N.
stability, comfort and the handling in sidewinds - In April the winter went away here in Sweden and I managed to do some longer rides with the Epic 38 mm clinchers. Did a 200 km quite hilly ride and the weekenda after that i did a 300 km ride with some rain. The wheels are impressively allround and Im still impressed by the stability, comfort and the handling in sidewinds.
MICHAEL S.
Stickers - I like the wheel, the stickers look extremely tacky. They are not properly applied and r falling off.

Truly Epic. - These wheels have been nothing but impressive! They spin up fast and seem to even pick up speed on the hills faster than some of the other big name carbon rims I've tried. Handling is responsive and crisp in the corners thanks to the advancements in wider rims. Braking wasn't sure and strong at first but I blame it on the pads that were sent with the rims. My only complaint is the graphics on the wheels. They are fairly cheap. They look great, but after one ride I noticed bubbles forming in them and slight peeling on the edges. I believe that this is due to the heat created by braking, but can't be sure. I called support and was assured 100% that the rims were fine. And that if the problem persists they would handle it. The integrity and quality of this product and the company so far have been awesome. And will confide in this company for further purchases.
Robert K.
Great wheels!! Epic 38 clincher. - After about 400km i am moore than satisfied. I showed them to my local dealer and he was impressed of the building quality. Looks good to...
Austin S.
I have not received my order!!!! - It has been over a month since I placed the order and nothing has arrived. This is beyond disappointing.
Jeffrey S.
Epic 38 clincher review - I went with standard Vapor hubs and the Pillar aero-bladed spokes; no upgrades this time but totally happy with set. Wheels took about 2 weeks to come in but not bad considering these go through 2 customs offices. I've ridden about 1700 miles on them so far (about 400 miles on very rough roads) and very pleased that I haven't had to true wheels. A different brake pad arrived with this wheel set; not sure what material change is but new pads are a little thicker than the original blue pad and required adjusting cable. Braking has been good but haven't ridden in wet conditions yet; this is Texas after all and we haven't had significant rain this summer. I actually like the Epic 38 more than the Epic 50 simply because I don't feel buffeted by the wind as much since I only weigh in at 56 kilos.
Andrew S.
50/38 epic clinchers - first off...james is a total PRO and the website is very thorough. without those 2 pieces, I would have NOT made this purchase. the purchase...I had about 90% of my choices correct based on past 35 years of experience. in illinois the terrain is basically FLAT with the occasional bump, but I wanted a wheel that was areodynamic, light so it would accelerate, good in the cross winds (I am 5'-7", 131 lb.). I wanted a zipp like rim cross section without the zipp $. the 50/38 epic clinchers do all the things I mentiioned. I mounted 25mm conti 4000s tires with the lighter tubes.
I have been riding them for 3 weeks. they felt faster than my 38mm/22mm width carbon clinchers that I have 23mm conti 4000s tires on. I have been on them for 3 years and they have served me well, but time for some new tech.
the first ride (training race) I was light on tire pressure. 88lb. in the back with 83lb. in the front. 2 front pot hole pinch flats. annoying. the next day I did another training race with 95lb. in the front and back. no problems since the initial ride. as an FYI the 25mm conti's measure 27mm on the rim. comfortable and fast.
I am a happy guy and have already recommended these wheels to a california friend except in the 38/38 configuration for a bit more acceleration. he does lots of up/down.
good product, good company, james is a nice man. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS HERE.
Peter C.
Classy Wheels - This is a very light pair of wheels, they are clearly well designed, manufactured and built. The fit is perfect, with 25c Schwalbe Ones there is a 2mm gap to the brake bridge. They are silent in operation and appear capable of taking any amount of punishment. Running 25c tyres at lowish pressures (75/80psi) the wheels feel stiff but comfortable and roll very well. O yes, and they look really good!
Steven A.
Epic 38 Clincher - Excellent Product, Excellent Service.
They shine at 30 plus KPH.
Braking as good or better than my alloy wheels. More predictable in winds than my old 25mm alloys as well.
No regrets!
The 2.
Fantastic fast quiet love them - i think because of wider rims and the tire of choice they ride smoother than my tubelars. The dt Swiss 240 hubs are so smoother with the psi 90/95 they seem to ride sooooo fast and confident in taking corners a bit on the fast side
John P.
Velo Dropouts. Perth Australia - Great wheels light high quality climb & spin up very well run super smoothly & look awesome. Also exalent service.
Nestor C.
Great looking wheels - Just got them few days ago, and my bike look great on tokyo wheels... Performance is as good as mavics.

Epic 38 Carbon clincher - Light, Responding, Fast, Nice!
Nigel S.
so far so good. rolls - so far so good. rolls well.
Richard M.
fast on the straights, comfortable - fast on the straights, comfortable on the rough, confidence inspiring on the corners. Braking is powerful enough, but the brake pulsing is a little unnerving.
Jeff N.
Epic 38' with Ceramic Hubs and 25mm tires - Swapped my Mavic Ksyrium SL's for the Epic 38's with ceramic hubs and 25mm Tyres.
The good: Faster flat rolling speed, Good acceleration, very smooth running hubs. The stiffness of the rims compensated with the wider tires. No issues with cross winds.
The Bad: Braking is ok, but can be a bit 'grabby'. I get the feeling the brake pads may have to be replaced frequently? (too early to tell). Weight slightly heavier than advertised.
Overall, very happy with the wheels. Definitely improved speed. Great value.
Peter D.
Zipps have nothing on your rims - Your wheels are the best, the choice of 38 /50 was a good
choice for me. January to March is very windy in St.vincent
and they have a 3mile decent that is very tricky, but with those
wheels i have no problem.
Flats..... Good
climbing... good
Descending...Great
My choice of tires are ....Michelin PRO 4 Endurance 700 x 23c
i will send you a pic later, sweet rims man
keep up the good work....i forgot to tell you
i borrowed some Zipp 404 to ride a race, one
time before i bought you wheels, and the Zipps
have nothing on your rims......lol
Thanks loads
Peter

Money well spent! - I love these wheels. They work perfectly and look absolutely awesome. Customer service is second to none. Thanks James.
Neilq B.
Blasting new Personal bests! - Sweet wheels using these cross racing and road training, they roll smooth and fast, dishing is great, without being a hindrance in high cross wind. Would buy again for sure.

Epic 38-50 Carbon Clincher Wheelset - Incredible Wheelset for low Price, Good for Climbing and Flat. I recommended to everyone and My Friend to buy this Wheelset because at Tokyowheel We Can Custom our Hub, Spoke, and Decal Sticker. Thanks you TokyoWheel
Colin B.
Epic 38-50 Carbon Clincher - This is the first carbon wheelset I've ever bought so an element of trepidation on my part that they would meet my expectations and all of the website "hype". Had a problem right at the start in that the delivery was held up pending payment of an import duty charge which I was not expecting. I settled this payment on-line and my wheels were delivered 24 hrs later. True to their web-site claim, Tokyo refunded 110% of this charge into my bank account almost immediately. The wheels are undoubtedly a quality product. Not only do they look great on my bike, they spin incredibly smoothly with the ceramic bearings and my average speed on both climbs and fast flat sections has increased significantly. I no longer get dropped by the fast guys and can keep up with them almost at will. Conclusion :- They have exceeded my expectations on just about every measure, a great product that delivers what it says ie more speed !
Luis A.
Great wheels - i was using campagnolo wheels and was happy in my choice until I purchased a set of Tokyo wheels and the difference was amazing I would recommend this brand to anybody looking for carbon wheels
Chiin-hooi T.
Very cool wheels for what you pay - First you might wonder why give it a 4, given the title of my review. And to be fair, let's start with what I like about them. I used to ride Zipps, and was looking for a lighter, full carbon solution. I came across these, and was pleased that I was able to get a full carbon wheelset, with ceramic bearings, for an extremely reasonable price. The Zipp equivalent are significantly more expensive, and slightly heavier even.
The wheels look cool, and the choice of decals is a nice idea. Nice concept, being able to slightly customize your wheels.
My only niggle is I had some trouble getting them right on my bike. There was a lack of instructions, and we had to do some research to figure out what brake pad was for what. I have a slightly crowded brake arrangement, and we had to fiddle quite a lot before we got the pads to fit. And I could only get the blue pads to fit, which are of the lower spec, compared to the yellow (as I read on your website eventually). Something to be aware of, or perhaps something for Tokyowheels to consider.
All in all I am happy with my purchase. I have to say that customer service follow up has superb, with prompt responses and offers to reimburse local bike shop expenditure of correcting problems at a 110%.
Sungsik J.
I participated a Granfondo and triathlon with Tokyowheels in Korea. - I had participated a Granfondo two weeks ago and I participated a triathlon yesterday in S. Korea.
And I I'm highly satisfied the wheels.
You made great wheels.
Matthew B.
Very pleased. - I am very happy with the build quality and performance of these wheels. I had to true them slightly, but I would expect that with a new wheel after about 100 miles. I've ridden them about 1200 miles now.
Miles T.
Miles Taylor - Wheels received all as promised. Seem really good certainly spin up really well. Will give a further review after doing se more mileage.
Had to pay a customs fee but Tokyowheels reimbursed 120%.
So far very happy
Clinton R.
Tony Raynor Epic 38's Clincher - Getting to know wheels (raced with them once already). They get up to speed pretty quick. They roll well and accelerate downhill very well. Not super excited about the skewers. They are lighter and small profile which is good but the exposed threads is concerning and I'm wondering if they may be dangerous in a spill? The purchasing process was great. Lots of communication and I felt very well taken care of and confident.
Mark O.
Rims ok hub isn't so good - the rim seems built well enough. The spokes well tensioned. The free hub on my upgraded hub isn't engaging smoothly. Occasionally there is a loud sound when free hub is engaging. No slipping detected just noisy. My mavic free hub makes a similar sound but a dt240 is much more solid then either.
Andrew S.
NEW & IMPROVED VERSION - I rode my new pair of 38/50 epic clinchers for the first time today on my also new FOCUS IZALCO MAX (bought frame, added SRAM red and force components). I have been using a pair 38/50 epic clinchers (previous iteration) on a ARGON GALLIUM PRO 18 set up for 2 years. both have 25mm continental 4000s tires/tubes.both measure about 27-28mm wide on the rims. I am 5'-7" and weigh 130-133 lb.
The new and improved version is just that. braking is noticeably better with the new pad/breaking surface combination. the wheels feel a bit faster on the accelerations and maybe a bit absorbing road shock during the interval workout I did today. will need to do a group ride to see how they do in the cross winds and echelons as well as carrying speed on long straights at 30mph +. again, this is all I can ascertain after one short ride. still thought, they are are BUY IT.
tokyowheels are durable, fast and a GREAT VALUE. I have ridden mavic and zipp carbons and these are definitely in the same league. in the 2 years I have ridden the previous version, I have only needed to have the from wheel trued once when I hit a monster pot hole (also flatted) on 40 person group ride. I will be there for the next upgrade in a couple of years.

excelent service - excelent service

A awesome wheelset - When I put it on for the first time and rode on felt like Fast , flying over the pavement ,my heart rate went down .. It's not a bird with wheels,it's not a rocket with wheels , its Tokyo wheels on a bike that makes you faster maybe faster than Superman !!!

Great! - Great wheels: my second set for my wife deadly wanting the same wheelset as mine. top service. thanks Tokyowheels
Juan V.
Awesome service - For the moment I can say that the service from James and his team is magnificent. They keep what they promise and more. I haven´t installed the wheels, because I am building a stainless steel bicycle from scratch, with the best components I can get.
Thanks

My EPIC 38 wheelsets from Tokyowheels - first of all, thanks for allowing me to review my new EPIC 38 wheelsets installed on my Specialized Tarmac bike. Overall, it impresses me on the easiness and lightness of the wheels when pedaling on the straights and climbs are much easier now not having to crank hard on the pedals compare before on my old alloy wheels.
Darren M.
New wheels - Unfortunately I have not used them yet just waiting for my bike to turn up
Dennis B.
1000 mi later. - Shipping was great good tracking and packing. Wheels looked good out of the box. Mounted tires, beads needed some soapy water to seat. Have run true no adjustments needed so far. I don't like the sqewers on the Tokyo hubs, not a big deal just used some old shimano ones. Overall these have been a great value and preform very nicely, as good as any wheel I have ever owned.
Dennis C.
nice wheels - I was really bummed, out even the local bike shop had a problem mounting the tires on the wheels. quality wheels but just didn't work out for me. everything went smooth with the return process.

EPIC 38....."The Wolf in Sheeps Clothing" - I really didn't know what to expect at first but I thought I might as well give it a go. You never try, you never know. I needed a replacement for my tubulars as I wasn't too confident with them. Don't get me wrong they were fantastic wheels but at the back of my mind I had this fear that I'd get a flat. When you ride in the desert there are two things that are alway on your mind, running out of water and getting a flat tire. In comparisson to my tubulars, the weight difference was .....what weight difference? With the Epic 38 it was as smooth as butter. Because of the wider width of the rim (19mm I believe) the 25C tyres recomended felt like a 28C, in other words more comfortable. Phycologically, as an older rider, I didn't want to put pressure on myself by riding deep wheels so I purchased the Epic 38. However, don't be fooled by its looks, it may look tame, but really its a wolf in sheeps clothing. There is no way I can keep up with the younger guys, but with anybody my age, I just might have something up my sleeve with the Epic 38.......and "No", the guys at Tokyo Wheels didn't pay me to write this :)

Epic 38 Rear Wheel - Just needed a rear wheel and decided to try Tokyowheel. Wheel was shipped quickly. It is much lighter and stiffer than my previous aluminum wheel. Rolls super smooth and straight as an arrow. It seems like a high quality product. So far, I am very pleased.

Epic review- all good - Rode these in a four stage race, more than happy with them,
Rafael V.
Excelente - La comunicación, el tiempo de envío y la calidad son excelentes.

38 clinches - Seem to be a good wheel just started using them, but so far they feel good and lighter than my others.
David H.
What a buy. - Fantastic wheels straight out of the box. They run smooth and true and feel fantastic in the corners and climbs. Can’t fault them.
Samuel T.
Repeat Customer - I already have a pair of Epic 5.6 wheels, so I was aware of the whell quality. The timeline for receiving the wheels was the issue.
RICHARD P.
EPIC 38 rims - Awesome quality i thought i was looking at enve rims. I ordered tubeless epic 38 rims and weighed 960 grams actual. Was a bit heavy compare to other rims i previously bought (around 850 grams), but i will not hesitate to trade off that small 100 grams savings on how great the rims are built. I could not wait to test the wheels when i the build is finished with my industry 9 hubs. Highly recommended! - Richard Pureza from Australia.
Simon S.
Nice Rims for an acceptible price - I bought the rims only and did the wheel lacing by myself. I do not have any long term knowledge about the durability but on my first three rides the rims seem to be very stiff and the braking was even better as my aluminum rims (I use some aftermarket swiss stop black prince).
Another side note: I had to pay import tax and other services. Tokyowheel paid 110% back without any hassle!
Daniel S.
Tokyo epiic wheel - Only 3 rides in, so far so good.
Hello
Cameron M.
Great set of wheels - Haven’t ridden them much yet but after 300km or so in the hills they’ve been great, very responsive, light, fast and no issues with braking. Very happy
Stefan R.
Awesome wheels! - Love my new Epic 38 Carbon Clinchers. super light, wide rim and nice black/white look!

Epic 38C 1000 mi review - Wheels arrived just shy of 2 weeks from date of order. During that time I received several emails from Tokyowheels providing me with an education about carbon wheel technology. I ordered with optional Sapim CX-Ray spokes. Although I did not weigh these wheels before mounting the tires, I think they were a bit over spec'd weight, This is most likely due to the brass nipples now being used, which is something you'll be happy about a year down the road if you break a spoke or need to true them. Alloy nipples tend to freeze up after about a year. My Epic 38's were true and round right out of the box. Although I was asked to review them earlier, I wanted to get some miles on them before I submitted my review. I'm pleased to tell you that they are fast, aero and stiff, while at the same time having a low enough profile that they are not adversely effected by a crosswind. Additionally, the rear wheel has a 2x pattern on the non-drive side (not standard these days) which adds a lot to the stiffness/acceleration of the wheelset when trying to bridge a gap or sprint. The hubs roll very smoothly and the rear hub engages quite well. I would suggest that customers use Windex or soapy water to lubricate the tire bead/rim interface. You'll hear the tire pop as it seats. This will ensure that the tire bead is seated evenly and the wheel is true.
I have a lot of experience with carbon wheelsets and Tokyowheel is doing a great job with their assembly process. In summary, I have no reservations in recommending Tokyowheels' products.

Epic 38 Sapim upgrade - Wheels delivered impressively quickly over the Christmas period just in time for first race on January 12th. Had to replace quick release springs with old Shimano ones as I had with previous 3.4 s due to spring wire binding inside hub spindle. Wheels performed great with easy class win. Ceramic bearings went rough and had to get new ones sent out by customer service- delivered in less than a week to NZ !! Great service. Won class and 8th overall in 148km race. Great wheels, will see how rear wheel bearings go from now on.
Oscar B.
Great purchase - This is the third set of wheels I buy. All of them performing as expected in Trek bikes. Shaved 2kg with these wheels in each bike. Definitely I would recommend the clinchers rather than tubulars; the world’s streets are still not ready for tubulars.
Jens A.
It was super - It was super

Elite 38 Carbon Tubular Review - It's been two weeks since notification wheels were shipped out. Still waiting for the wheels. No in-transit communication since. Frustrating.
ZENON W.
Delivery - on time Wheel - Delivery - on time
Wheel perfos - as expected (circa 30 seconds slower when 88 mm smililar wheel on 20 km TT on flat road)
Very stable in side wind condition. I past just 1500 km and see zero usage on this wheel
Reinier V.
38 mm Epic Wheels - Ordered and received my wheels 10 days later which was good as it was over New Year’s. Very happy with the wheels as they run straight and are a huge improvement from ali rims. Overall handling and breaking is good. Super happy with this upgrade.
