I have been riding on my new Epic 5.6's with Sapim CX Ray spokes so far for about a month. So far they have been great! A couple things I will note about them: - Seem MUCH faster than my old aluminum rims - When riding, the wheels make a slight sound similar to an ambulance, Doesn't bother me at all, but just figured I would note that. It could be the valve stem extender - The wheels do flex a little bit side to side. I was worried that in a races they may flex some and come in contact with rim brakes, thus costing me speed, so I backed off my rim brakes a bit just to make sure. This is with the Sapim spokes also, just FYI. - The wheels had no problems working with Latex tubes. No carbon spikes or defects to effect the tubes. Like I said, overall I am still very happy with these wheels, and I will look forward to purchasing a set for the next bike I build also. Highly recommend.

Just to be short, I see TokyoWheels in my cycling community and got good feedback, so then i try to find out website and then asked lots of Q's from Kane, James .... and then i decided to buy. I bough it during holiday season, so it took almost a month to reach me. Then Customs call be to pay Duty and then i paid them and sent email to Support , and get 110% refund. Then I took my wheels to LBS for cassette removal from my old to new wheels . Then i install tyres and tubes my self and hurrah!. Installing front tyre was was easy as butter , but for back wheel i have to remove some washers from brake pads(so i decided not to rub), since default pads are little beefy. Here in pakistan, winter season is up , so i only did just 3 rides, and i found them good in terms of speed... definite speed gains ... One thing that i think needs to address is , we need to know what size of valve inner tube required that will balance with wheels ? since weight balancers are there to equals the valve weight. In my experience , i think for 55mm front wheel , we should go for 40mm Valve plus Extender, for 65mm back wheel, we can try 48mm with extender or either directly go for 80mm ... but long valve inner tubes are expensive. so overhaul a good experience.

Preety much worn out my gen 1 epic 4.5's after 18-20k kms brake tracks are a bit worn. Still good as a spare set. Liking the 5.6's bit stiffer and with ceramic bearings seam to ride easyer fot the same power. Getting PR's on most rides (strava) even though I unfit right now. Cant falt the wheel set or the service and communication from Tokyo through shipping. Surprised they turned up so soon even through Christmass.

I have received my wheels within 20 days in USA as promised and the wheels have a great look and definitely improved my riding performance specially against wind and during cornering re- acceleration. I’d recommend Tokyo team to look into the Titanium quick release design, unfortunately I had one of my quick releases damaged on the very first use. They are very fragile and not very easy to handle.

Great wheels but skewers were of poor quality & burred up on 1st locking movement, these need attention, I threw mine away & hoping you will provide a better quality option

Only done 11 hours ride time on this wheel but I'm impressed with both the wheel & the customer service. I got hit with customs duty living in the UK but Tokyowheel were true to there word & payed 110% back happy days!, The wheel was built up with cx ray & std hub, trued nicely & had excellent lateral stiffness on climbs & out of saddle sprints. It rolls well & carries speed well. I will be back & would recommend.

I'm so happy with Tokyowheels! Lightweight, superfast, durable and great looking design of this wheelset is taking breath away. The price for what you really buy is unbeatable. I have decided to buy another set to enhance quality of my MTB.

Though the customer service was impeccable and excellent and Kane was helpful throughout the process, the wheels still did arrive 10 days later than expected.

tried the wheels. quite a good wheelset for the price. in detailed of the review, rims are good. fitted nicely with my Schwalbe Pro One 23c tyres. the hub wasn’t as good as a Chris King hub but I think it isn’t right to compare with Chris King. The ceramic bearings for the hubs are very smooth and good for a start. with such a price, i think it’s more than the value i paid for. However, 55mm and 65mm depth rims are a little too heavy for me. it takes a lot of pick up speed from stationary position. But once if you could hit around 38km/h to 40km/h, the wheelset would work it’s way.

Well the response from your side is Great, but unfortunately l havnt yet received the wheels , the customs have not released them. They want to see the recept and only after which they will send the wheels.

Great wheelset, very stiff, very aero, great weight and also great service. Really happy with the purchase. Good quality product. This is no exception. First ride out and I can already feel the difference the aero wheels make over and above my previous rim wheels.

I received the wheels that were suppose to be tubeless and they are not, They are currently in the bike shop and they are telling me that they are tubeless unless you guys have a special trick to put the tubeless tire on!!! I was hoping to use these for nationals next week and now I am without a set of wheels... How do I return these if I have to - very disappointing. Hi William. Sorry to hear you're having issues. All of our clinchers are tubeless compatible. You can use normal clincher tires and tubes, or tubeless tires and no-tubes. If you want to go tubeless, you need a tubeless kit - valves, tubeless rim tape and sealant. You can order these online, or source them from a good local bike shop. Fitting the Type was a Bit challenging , unlike what the Description says you need to fit 25mm width otherwise it does not Clinch in the rim properly. Once you have the proper tyre it flies.

I’ve ridden on them twice now. They came promptly, in great shape, where easy to install, and (frankly) look great. I was replacing custom AL rim wheels (Mavick Openpro with Ultegra hubs) and found the TokyoWheels responsive and great on the flats - and no real noticeable loss on the hills either. I’m very happy.

I used these wheels about 15-20 rides. Last day I hear something on my front wheel. I removed a tire and I saw some white scraps material in wheels was cracked down (I think it’s Reisin) and I put them out using valve hole. I just want to know what’s this piece and what will affect to my wheel.

First I like to tell you that when my wheelset arrived they were damaged, to no fault of anyone, but they took care everything(thanks Kane)...Now for my review, I've only ridden the set for 6 rides & I am pleasantly surprised, they're fast, responsive & comfortable. I've had a little issue with crosswind but I own a set of Bora Ones & I have the same issue, braking is a little bit of a learning curve,but I think switching to Swissstops will help.My opinion although from only a short sample of riding is I really like these wheels.

great ride on these wheels. mo doubt about it. however, on my 2nd ride, air escaped from the valve (front). due to loose valve. valves, tires & wheel tapes were pre-installed.

Wheels took a while to arrive so be patient. I emailed Tokyo wheel and they were always helpful and responsive. Wheels arrived with severe box damage and I was convinced they were damaged but they appear fine and everything was there despite a huge hole in the box. The rims look great. I’d suggest maybe upgrading the hubs. The stock ones look fine but will need to ride them to see how they perform. Overall the process was pretty painless.

Overall it’s a good set of wheels at a good price. Tokyo Wheels should just take into consideration that the stickers on the wheel peel of quite easily. Service from Tokyo Wheels is excellent! Took it for a 140km ride, absolutely no problems.

Surprised me with great after purchase service and follow up emails with technical information on the wheels. Quick delivery turn around time after purchase. Love riding on the wheels and look just as great as the performance.

Got the ceramic hubs, wheels roll easy and respond quickly. Ordering was easy. Does take a couple weeks , but no issues with shipment coming from overseas. Arrived without a hitch. Only have a few rides on them, so far, no issues.

This review is after participating in the 2018 Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) and logging 485 miles in one week. To start, I am a 6’1” 180 pound 50-something cyclist. The wheels are on a full carbon with SRAM Force groupset. First Impression: Solid wheels that improved the appearance of an 11-year old bike. I selected the flat black decal to appear “stealthier”, not wanting to draw attention and encourage a theft. Weight reduction was offset by the heavier DT Swiss hubs. (James recommended the deeper EPIC 5.6 after cracking a third rear wheel.) The wheels spin up faster and appear to hold the spin much longer. During the first ride a pop-up summer thunderstorm occurred with front, cross, and tail winds. There was no noticeable difference in road feel except during a cross-wind gust, and then only on the rear. The 25mm tires look more like 28mm. Ride is smoother after reducing air pressure to 85 PSI. The wheels sound different. Shifting has a distinctive and hollow ring. The freewheel is much quieter than a Novotec or Campy hub. In fact, over a few MPH they are drowned out by road noise. If you like a loud wheel then these with the DT Swiss hubs may not be your first choice. Rolling: The wheels did not make my ascents any faster but descents improved and felt more controlled. I have never been a strong climber. On one RAGBRAI hill I hit 39.8 on gravity alone. On the flats my speed definitely increased 1-2 MPH and was sustainable for much longer durations. I was almost able to hang with riders 30 years my junior. In a diagonal cross wind, they did require a firm grip on the bars. Once when a tanker truck passed the bike was blown several inches sideways. End Notes: After nearly 1000 miles the wheels are still true. Acceleration is immediate with no flex. Braking is reduced, especially in an emergency stop during a decent. No noticeable heat generation, smell, or noise using the Included brake pads. I have not tested the SwissStop Yellow King yet. Check the brake fit as some older calipers are barely wide enough for the 25mm rim!

*First, the delivery took 32 days from the day I placed my order. I think expectations were properly set that this was not going to be speedy delivery. However, packaging was totally intact and secure. *Second, out of the box they felt super light and look freakin' amazing! *Third, be prepared to tweek your brakes. I've read reviews where people stated the brakes were loud. This should not be a problem with the correct brake pads. Also the width to the braking surface was different to my last wheelset so it needed some re-calibration. Also, true out of the box. *Fourth, THE RIDE... I had been riding some old Bontrager Race Lite wheels and these felt different--for sure. Braking isn't as sensitive on these. The weight is about the same, but I can feel the difference in resistance. Very smooth roll. So far with watts about the same getting a few km/h better than where I was. Also in the mix is switching from 23mm tires to 25mm. For what it's worth: decals were placed very close to brake surface and have already had to pick off the flaky bits. *Five, I'll just say great value. Frustrated with the wait, but now that they're here I can say this was a great purchase.

These Epic 5.6 carbon clinchers are definately value for money and comparable to many higher priced brands. Stiff, responsive and lightweight. Variation in the thickness of the carbon on the braking surface is minimal. Would recommend.

So far did 200km with my EPIC 5.6. and they lived to my expectation. They look great, handle wind and curves very well. However I did not have a very positive experience with the delivery time. The wheels delivery took 33 days to arrive to UAE. This is probably the only downfall that I believe can be rectified easily or by being upfront so that to prevent disappointment

SO far so good, wheels are great and looks great on my Madone. Delivery was lack luster but the James was a professional about and I am loving the wheels so far. I only have 100 mls on the but feel solid.

First impressions were that the wheels looked great. Bit worried the stickers might eventually come off but for now that’s not a problem. The wheels are true and I love riding with them. They make the bike look a treat too!

The EPIC 5.6 with upgraded DT Swss 240's and Sapin spokes arrived in Canada in 2 weeks. Shipping box was well designed and noted no damage due to shipping. No customs charges were required just as TokyoWheels stated. The Tokyowheel blue brake pads did not fit my Cirrus brake holders (could not insert more than 50 - 60% into the holders before extreme binding) Tokyowheels did reimburse the cost of Swissstop pads as alternative but again these pads would insert only 65% before binding) James said he could send another set of the blue pads in case there was a issue with original blue pads. Three weeks have passed and no new pads. I may need to order new Full Swissstop pads with holders. Here in Ontario Canada in uJan 2018 we are heavy into winter and snow so no outside riding till March 2018. On the positive side I have used our indoor Trainer with Parbloic Rollers and added about 300KM with the Tokyo wheels (no brakes yet) The wheels are great but really can not test on the road yet. The Tokyowheel carbon 5.6 were actually somewhat larger diameter than my alloy rims so new Continental 4000si road tires were extremely difficult to load. Really had to force the tire the last bit. So difficult that hopefully will never have flat while on the road and have to remove the tire ! The Tokyowheels Front Wheel trueness was perfect with absolutely no in/out movement. The Rear Wheel has 2mm wobble is in not 100% true.

Just completed the first 250kms on the new Epic 5.6 Carbon Clincher wheels. The quality is exceptional. Everything I needed was included, brake pads, valve extensions, 10s spacer. After 250kms on the Great Ocean Road I am very impressed. The wider profile rim and 23mm tyre feels different at first but after three rides I am fully confident in these wheels. I highly recommend these wheels

So far I have about 300 miles on them they are definitely faster than my old aluminum wheels I like them my only concern is durability but so far they are excellent

When I received the item the front wheel had wobble in it and also needed to ture it pls check about Turing the wheel ...also I needed to pay customs on the wheels

Yes, sometimes various countries will assess a custom fee. When that happens all you need to do is send us a copy of the official invoice and you are reimbursed. Your reimbursement is in process right now. Our spoke tension is tested using the Park Tool Tension Meter. I had some minor issues adapting my rim brakes, but now that this has been resolved my bike is a ROCKET! I originally ordered the Epic 5.6, but after I slept on it I contacted TokyoWheel and changed my order to the 3.4s. They had no problem with this and even threw in an extra set of brake pads to account for the price difference.

I am not a racer, but have wanted to upgrade my wheels to see if everything I read was true about the improvement I would get from carbon. It is! I did my research of all the major brands and selected Tokyo Wheels. Their video series was very helpful and with their 65 day test period, it was an easy decision. The wheels perform beautifully. My average speed is up over 2 mph, the feel is extremely responsive and they are solid as a rock on downhills. However, with all of those advantages, I am most impressed with TW customer service. It is, and continues to be, outstanding! They treat customers with the personal touch you wish you could receive from others. They truly set the bar that few, if any, ever reach. I couldn't be more satisfied with both the product and the service.

This is a true all around wheels , fast & great on flat , handles the winds pretty well & no issues uphill even at 10% gradient & braking is really good considering I'm from Oman :flag-om: I rode at a hot 44c* .

Epic 5.6 Carbon Clincher Wheelset has performed brilliantly. Received compliments on look and performance from others riding on the big name wheelsets. Initial setup of breaks required a little fine tuning but once adjustments were made the wheels have performed flawlessly. For the price paid, you can't go wrong with this wheelset. I rode them a whole week around Arizona: on flat road, on rolling terrain, climbing (Kitt Peak, Mount Lemmon). They performed well. The only reason I don't give a 5th star is their stability in low to medium wind gust. Other wheelsets performed better BUT cost at least double the price; hence the great ROI on these wheels. The upgrade for better hubs is worth the money.

I have heard all kinds of stories (horror and other) about "Chinese" carbon wheels. I wanted a moderately deep profile wheel for my Scott Addict and decided to take a chance on the Epic 5.6. Wow... I have been very pleasantly surprised. The wheels are beautiful to look at, perfectly true, and are fabulous to ride on. I am most impressed with the braking surface and performance. My wheels brake smoothly and progressively (dry) and never squeak or squeal. I live in Southern California, so don't ask me about breaking in the wet. I also have a set of very expensive carbon clinchers from a very well known and old Italian company. My Tokyowheels are every bit as good as my high end wheels, and cost less than half. If I had known how good they were, I would have bought the Tokyowheel 35mm wheels instead of the Italian wheels and saved myself $1,600. No kidding.

Although I ordered these before a major holiday, which delayed shipping, I am more than happy with the wheel set. I was always told that changing the wheel set was probably the best upgrade I could make to almost any bike. These wheels proved that true. I have notice significant improvements in the roll of the bike and various intangibles like feel and responsiveness, as well as an increase in average riding speed for the effort involved. And... we'll the bike just looks way more cool! I have recommended these wheels to several friends that just purchased new road and tri bikes, after they asked when we finished our normal weekend ride..

The wheels are beautiful and is perfect for Road and TT set-up on my Argon 18 Nitrogen. It improves my speed and climb unknowingly because it is very fast and light weight, and brakes are working well - which makes my every ride so relaxing. The wheels are excellent for its price!

Purchased a pair of beautiful epic 5.6 and was having doubts about its performance until I truly realise that I am able to go faster without the level of stress compared to my previous wheels! It's able to maintain the speed for a longer duration! I do hope for more hubs option for future models to introduce this to my group of cyclists. Good job!

From the outside the wheel looks Awesome. Perfect fit to my BMC SLR01. For me its best for 23mm rather than 25mm i tried them both. I find it light with super speed and stability performance. Very fast and light but a little push on the Climbing though.

I bought my EPIC 5.6 wheels after I read all of the reviews. Some people claimed to have increased there average by 1 to 2 MPH. After my first ride on the new wheels I averaged 1.2 MPH better. I changed the wheels over myself. I took the cassette off my old wheel and installed them on the new wheel. I did not use the valve extensions they give you, I bought new tubes with 80mm valves and they work great. Also I did not use the brake pads that came with them instead I bought ZIPP Platinum brake pads. I bought the Jagwire brake toe-in tool to set the pads correctly and they were very easy to set up. With the Zipp brakes pads and having them toed-in there is no noise when I stop.

This is just an all around great wheelset. Very solidly built. Crosswinds didn't effect my ride like some of the other carbon wheels that I tried. I would highly recommend these wheels to anyone who is considering. Some may be hesitant to buy without actually seeing the wheels. I was. All I can say is try them out... they have a money back guarantee which is what made me pull the trigger. Now I know I got a great deal!

My husband purchased the Epic 5.6 an anniversary gift - how romantic right?! Well, BEST GIFT EVER!!! I am averaging 2 mph faster, over the entire ride, on my 4 year old Specialized Transition Comp Triathlon Bike! Where I used to cruise at 16-17 mph I find myself more often than not at 20 mph with the same cadence, gearing, and effort! We did a Century ride this past weekend in winds of 20-35 mph, the bike was stable and fast, even in headwinds. Again, BEST GIFT EVER!
